May 24th 1998 marked the running of the 82nd annual Indianapolis 500, and 20 years after pacing the race for the first time, a Chevrolet Corvette was back at the front of the pack. Driven by previous Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones, this Corvette pace car looked every bit as racey as the Indy cars following close behind it. Chevrolet built 1,158 replicas of this awesome looking Corvette for sale to the public under RPO code Z4Z. Checking this box on the order form added $5,039 to the base convertible cost of $44,425. For that price, customers were treated to a Corvette Pace Car Replica packed full of options including: an upgraded Delco radio with CD player, a digital clock, power windows, lock, and mirrors, anti-theft system, and Bose speakers. Both the driver and passenger sports seats were power-adjustable and had memory functions. Each pace car also included Chevrolet’s active-handling package with traction control. Active Handling monitors steering inputs and the lateral G-forces being exerted on the car and in-turn controls the car’s braking system to stabilize the car during more aggressive maneuvers, as well as reducing under- and over-steering. The only option left for the buyer to choose was automatic or manual transmission. Under the hood you’ll find GM’s much loved LS1 V-8 making 345HP and allowing a sub 5 second sprint to 60 miles per hour. The transmission is mounted at the rear axle for excellent balance, and working in concert with light weight aluminum underpinnings and a four wheel independent suspension design, makes the Corvette one of the best handling cars of its day. Large four wheel power disc brakes help convert all that horsepower to heat and bring this replica racer to a halt quickly and easily. This gorgeous example you see here has covered just over fifty thousand miles, and has been lovingly cared for. These cars don’t come up for sale often, and are sure to appreciate in the coming years. Get yours while you still can! Email Brian@Burnyzz.com or stop into our showroom today!!
